India is a country of culture. Along with different states they also have different ways of celebration. We Indians express our happiness at our festivals. Northeast which the easternmost region of India comprises with Seven Sister which are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura. The most interesting part of the sister is the whole population of these is sister is almost around the population of Odisha. A well-Known Journalist published a book called the “land of Seven Sisters” which talks about the beautiful side of these places and it reflects the habitualness and alliance of these sisters. Assam is known as the land of cultivation and harvesting usually people of Assam are engaged in the harvesting of Tea and rice, Assam's black tea is very famous and the land of river Brahmaputra ( The Brahmaputra is known as lohit in the Assamese language ) and the hills are known as eastern Himalayan ranges. Music and dance are also a part of Assam culture, folk dance, and borgeet, etc.

Mother nature has shown her love for Assam's land and all her blessings for the fertilizer land. there is a lot of greenery and fields in the states of Assam and a wonderful tea plants and it is rich with flora and fauna, the climate of Assam remains pleasant during the year and there is a lot of wildlife century in the Assam forest and it attracts tourism towards Assam.Home of rhinoceros and few other rare animal species. Jhum farming is the common and most practiced way of earning of the Assamese. Bihu is one of the most loved festivals of Assam, it is a non-religion festival of Assam but they celebrate it by leaving all the difference between people behind. Assamese celebrated Bihu with lots of joy and enjoyment. Assam is a place in India known as the land of reconciliation and dominion covered with peaks belongs to the seven sisters and an alluring state of India willful with the green Woodlands and islands in the Brahmaputra River which connects India to China and Bangladesh. Bihu is a festivity of Harvesting, Joy and Sorrow and a festival of religions. Bihu is the jovial carnival of Assam. Bihu shows three contrasting urbanities it is observed by regional caste, social class and religious people with all their Faith's with it. People of Assam take delight and pleasure from their festival three times a year.

It is a special occasion for farmer’s tributes to the farming season and later all started celebrating it with joy. It is started from the time when agronomy was the only origin of occupation for the Assamese. In this fest, youth feeds their cattle in the woodlands paddy fields became dry, as per the time passes the structure of their traditional dance and song is little changed. The new changes in Assamese life are introduced by colonialism as per the time Information, Communication and of in Technology. These changes can be easily seen in the Bihu fest. The word Bihu comes from deori word Busu. Busu word means ' excessive joy'. The Tradition of beating dhol is older then Bihu by four eras. Bihu is not only celebrated in the only Assam but celebrated by the other peoples also who are not living in Assam. Many other committees relate to this festival celebrate this festival in other countries as well. The London Bihu committee (LBC) is one of them, and there are many other committees too. The bohag Bihu is also celebrated elsewhere but with different name and with different culture too.

Swargadeo Rudra singh was the first king to accept bihu as the national festival of assam in the year 1694. Bihu festival was started the farmers of assam.

Assamese BIHU

Assamese most loved festival is Bihu. Which is celebrated three times in a year by the assamese and it performs for different reasons and in seasons.

Rongali or bohag bihu : It is celebrated as the assamese new year in the april duration, during the spring season, Rongali bihu relates with baisaki ( A festival of punjabi peoples of India )

Kangali or kati bihu: Celebrated in october by the assamese, it is a season of short supplies. People of assam light lamps and diya for the paddy fields of rice and adores prayer to the God of fire for successful harvesting.

Bhogali or Magh bihu: Celebrates after the Cultivation in the January duration, it is all about food and assamese flavors. Various types of sports like buffalo fighting, nightingale fighting are organized for the enjoyment of the assamese.

Bhogali or Magh Bihu

The main reason to celebrate bihu festival is harvesting and Cultivation of paddy fields of rice. Bihu festival is for honoring Lord Krishana and Cattles and Fertility of goddess durga. Bihu festival long lasts for seven days and those seven days are named as 
he future harvest, they believe that cattles run their families so they mix there love into the sweets and gift them to their cattles.

kati bihu is on 19 october 2020. There is a regional public holiday in assam on this day. it begins in the month of kartik in the assamese calendar, at this time of the year Assamese farmer doesn't have a lot to eat and expense. Bihu is celebrated by firebolts the candles (saaki) and lamps in different parts of the house especially in stores and fields where crops are harvested. People also worship of Basil plant and compare it with god.

BHOGALI OR MAGH BIHU (JANUARY)

Festivals are meant for being happy and spread the happiness to others bhogali bihu promote to share the happiness with others, in this part of the bihu festival which comes at the end of harvesting season the month of 'magh' they joyfully make food and share it with others. the main element of this part of bihu is fishing, one day before magh bihu starts the piscary into a special pond. The specialty of the pond is that none of them go fishing in that pond during the year for their belive.

The Bhogali word refers to the word 'bhog' which reflects the feeling of brotherhood. The young man builds cottages which are also known as bhelgarh. 'Bhelaghar is made from the dry leaves and hay'. They made their cottage at that place where they harvest their crops. To celebrate and make their festival  more enjoyable they make majhi which similar look like a big bonfire and with their jolly faces and cheerful hearts they dance on their local songs and play games like traditional 'buffalo fight', egg fight, cock fight and nightingale fight are some famous game of this bihu. This special evening is known as URUKA. Assamese make luscious homemade assamese flavorsome food for community feast in this night. It is celebrated when winters is about to end. With all the exhaustion of night, they still woke up with the same refreshment of the night. People take bath early in the morning and move to the fields where they make majhi and gether around it and light up the fire in that, and fling the pithas in that fire and say thank you to the god of fire for their good harvest, and make an end of their harvesting period. Assamese visits their relative’s places to exchange bihu's gift. Bihu comes later but its wind comes first. The women's of the house start preparing for bihu when it is about to arrive. They start making delicious snacks, sweets, and many more edible things which make bihu special also they buy gifts for their love ones. Their love reflects in their food and in their gift, To show their love and their respect for their elder they gift them a Gramosa. It the token of love to their big ones. Bihu guest was usually welcome with the bihuwan which is another name of gramosa. Gramosa is a token of elder love as well as shows the ethnic religion.

Magh Bihu 2020

This year Magh Bihu was celebrated on 16th of January. It is Assam pride and the most important festival of Assam people of Assam enjoys this festival a lot with all of their energy and joy. this festival is all about bhog and enjoyment.

Bihu dance is an ancient folk dance of Assam it is the major part of the Bihu festival and plays a vital role in Assamese culture, Young ladies and Gentleman perform the Bihu dance they make their groups and perform in a circle they move their hands and feet in a synchronized movement they wear colorful dance dress, the young man's play musical instruments during the dance performance as like they play drums, flutes.

Bihu Dance

is performed during the Rongali Bihu. Bihu is a much-synchronized dance which is joyfully performed by young women and men. To gets this looks more attractive they wear their traditional clothes and dance on their folk songs. To get this dance on the beat they start their dance coming in the dancing area in very synced line.  They combined their steps and moved together like a team. The male dance comes first with the musician. The Bihu dance has a very unique step to perform the dance include footsteps and hands steps but it does not include the jump. It has its own unique dance posture which includes the movement of hips, arms, and wrist. They perform squats and bends which are prime parts of their dance. It is performed on the Assam’s folk songs.

Bihu Dance

      Bihu is purely performed on indigenous music. The mostly drummers which are also known as dhuliya plays soft and brisk rhythms while they enter a dance ground. To categorized bihu dance there are some dance which only performed by young women. These are dance performance which is given by females. This kind of Bihu is known as a Jeng Bihu. Ahom King Rudra Singha told the performer to perform Bihu dance at ranger fields in the year 1694, the style of Bihu dance and dancers are unique, the dance is totally incomplete without its traditional dress and attire, young male performers dress for dance is dhotis and gamocha ( dhoti is a big piece of thin cloth that is worn around the waist area and it covers the entire lower body of boys, gamocha is used as a headgear for boys by which they cover their head area they both are of bright colour with beautiful design and embroidery and with the different patterns and women wear traditional Assamese attire and chador and Mekhela and it is worn on the lower half part of the body. Music plays a virtual role in every folk dance performance of Bihu dance; it shows the happiness and culture of Assamese. The dance culture of Bihu is very famous not only in India but across the world.
